Chez Van Rijn

Chez Van Rijn is a French brasserie located at Rembrandtplein 17 in Amsterdam, occupying the monumental De Kroon building – a landmark structure built in the late 19th century to mark the coronation of Queen Wilhelmina. The venue was previously operated as Kitchen & Bar Van Rijn and underwent a full renovation and relaunch in February 2026 under the Poppes family, who have operated hospitality businesses on and around Rembrandtplein since the 1990s. The interior combines wood, glass, and warm tones of dark green and burgundy, with retained period architectural features alongside a modernised layout.

The concept is inspired by the Parisian bistro: straightforward, lively, and focused on craft over theatrics. The menu centres on French brasserie classics including oysters, steak tartare, mussels, house-smoked salmon, and steak frites. The venue serves throughout the day from morning coffee and lunch through to dinner and late-night drinks, with a dedicated bar programme running alongside the food offer. A private dining space accommodates groups and corporate events separately from the main dining room.
